Description

Alfred No. 1 is a characterful 52ft traditional tug-style narrowboat, built by JD Narrowboats in 2010, combining classic working-boat styling with a practical and versatile interior. With her distinctive tug deck, traditional boatman’s cabin and flexible 4–6 berth accommodation, she offers plenty of charm and potential for her next owner.

The traditional boatman’s cabin at the stern features a drop-down double bed, fold-down table, cupboards and drawers, together with a Boatman’s Premier stove, creating an authentic and cosy working-boat feel. Forward of the cabin is the engine room, housing the JD3 Beta Marine engine with Newage PRM 260 D2 gearbox, which has recorded just 239 hours.

The bathroom is fitted with a tiled shower cubicle, mixer taps, shower pump, vanity unit with ceramic sink and cupboard, cassette toilet, plus an additional sink and towel/shower arrangement. A new water pump has recently been installed.

The open-plan saloon and dinette provide a comfortable living space, with a Reflex stove, two-seater sofa and corner unit. The Pullman-style dinette converts into a double berth, providing flexible sleeping accommodation.

The galley features solid oak cupboards and work surfaces, a ceramic Belfast sink, tiled splashback and cutlery drawers, together with a Shoreline fridge-freezer and Wallace diesel hob stove with two-burner hob. A side hatch provides additional light and ventilation, while the space beneath the generous tug deck offers useful additional storage.

Further equipment includes Eberspächer central heating, Victron inverter, spray-foam insulation and port and starboard engine-room hatches. There is a 500-litre water tank, 200-litre waste tank and 180-litre fuel tank, plus a separate 97-litre Lockgate diesel tank supplying the stove and cooker. Alfred No. 1 also benefits from a valid Boat Safety Certificate until November 2029.

As a project boat, some refurbishment is required, including attention to porthole seals, painting and varnishing, servicing the oven and hob, resolving an air lock in the Reflex stove and refixing the oak panels on the swan hatch. A new starter battery will be fitted and the engine will be running prior to completion.

With her traditional tug styling, generous tug deck, authentic boatman’s cabin, low engine hours and versatile accommodation, Alfred No. 1 offers an exciting opportunity for someone looking for a narrowboat with genuine character and the scope to make her their own.
