Description

Womble is a characterful and well-presented 58ft semi-traditional narrowboat, built and fitted out by Alvechurch in 1992. Designed with comfortable cruising in mind, she offers a spacious, practical interior with four berths, generous storage and an open-plan layout that makes excellent use of the available space and natural light.

The accommodation flows naturally from the bar and dining area at the stern, through the bathroom and open-plan galley and saloon, to the fixed double bedroom at the bow. Storage has been thoughtfully incorporated throughout, making Womble particularly well suited to extended stays.

Womble has also enjoyed her moment in the spotlight, having been featured in the interiors section of The Sunday Times and in the first series of Channel 4’s Narrow Escapes.

Entering from the stern, you are welcomed into a distinctive bar and dining area that gives Womble plenty of personality. A small table with four bar stools provides a sociable space for dining, drinks or entertaining guests. Bar-style shelving complements the space, while the generous integrated storage helps keep everyday essentials neatly organised and out of sight.

The compact bathroom makes practical use of the available space and includes a shower with a hip bath, a compact washbasin and a composting separator toilet. The boat was previously fitted with a pump-out system, with the former pump-out location situated on the roof above the bathroom.

The open-plan galley has been designed as a functional kitchen for everyday use, with more worktop space than is typically found aboard a narrowboat. It is equipped with a double gas burner hob, a Candy OVG505/3X stainless-steel gas fan-assisted single oven and a shoreline fridge. Ample storage provides plenty of room for cookware, provisions and kitchen essentials, while the open layout makes the galley equally suited to cooking and entertaining.

The saloon forms part of Womble’s bright and welcoming open-plan living and kitchen space. A log burner creates a cosy focal point, while a comfortable two-seater sofa converts into an additional double berth when required. The layout provides a relaxed place to unwind, work or spend time with guests without feeling separated from the galley.

At the bow is Womble’s main bedroom, which features a fixed double bed and a wardrobe. A substantial amount of storage is provided beneath the bed, helping to maximise the available space and making the cabin practical for longer stays aboard.

Womble is powered by an Isuzu 38 engine coupled to a PRM 150 gearbox. The last professional engine service was completed in April 2022, with informal servicing carried out subsequently.

With her unusual bar and dining area, spacious open-plan living accommodation, fixed double bedroom and abundance of practical storage, Womble offers an appealing combination of character and everyday usability. Her previous appearances in The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Narrow Escapes add an interesting piece of history to a boat that already stands out from the crowd.
